Celtic Moon Month: Ash Moon

The Ash Moon falls between Feb 18th at Mar 17th.   In ancient Europe the time of the Ash Moon was when the ice began to melt, people would start venturing out of their homes after spending the long dark winters in doors. The Ash rules the 3rd month of the Celtic calendar, a month full of bad weather of rains and storms. Due to this the Ash was connected to the element of water and was often referred to as the "Weather Tree".

Associations of the Ash Tree:

Nion: In Celtic belief to the ash is linked to the runic letter Nion.
Crown: The ash tree is a "royal" tree as it's wood was often used in the construction of thrones due to it's very strong and flexible wood.
Ritual Fire: In Celtic legend the ash is associated with rainstorms and lightning as was used in ceremonies to create both rain and fire.
Pisces: the Celtic ash month occurs on the days of Pisces the zodiac sign connected with water, further aligning it with the watery ash.
  • Ash Moon Walking Meditation: Use the time of the Ash Moon to venture outside both mentally and physically, start planning a summer holiday or start walking outside now the weather is becoming milder.  Practice the following technique to assist your mind in releasing stress.  Using a white sage smudge stick.  **Light the stick and take time to relax and breathe deeply. **Begin to direct the smoke around the body, focusing and taking time to cleanse the aura saying "Spirit I walk this journey and invite you to join me, may each step be sacred and filled with light".  **You can even continue to cleanse your space around you after you have finished.  **Take a walk outdoors paying special attention to nature around you, relax and look for messages around you, clarity and inspiration often come to us while walking in nature.
Happy Ash Moon!
